The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has said incompetency and substandard materials applied to minimize the cost of production caused the building collapse that occurred on Thursday at Awosika, Bodija, Ibadan.
SON Oyo coordinator, Adetoye Adeyinka, while reacting after he and his team examined the cause, called on builders to always patronize quality materials with the approval of MENCAP.
According to InsideOyo, He urged contractors to always reach out to relevant and certified agencies for sensitization and advice on how to go about the construction of standard-story tory buildings in Ithe Ibadan North Local Government Area.
The source said seven injured persons have so far been rescued from the rubble of the building, but it could not be ascertained if any life was lost in the incident yet.
The affected building was adjacent to a new generation bank in the Awosika area, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Sources said the incident occurred around 5:45 AM when the Muslim faithful were going for prayers.
