The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Wednesday said it raked up N46,431,321,578.65k between May and November, 2022 as revenue.
The Command noted that the amount, when added to the revenue collected for the period covering January to April 2022 would be N65,462,925,412,30K.
According to The Nation , Speaking in Ibadan while highlighting achievements of the Command between May and December, the Area Controller of the Command, Babajide Jaiyeoba noted that when compared to revenue collection of N56,904,977,769.95k during the same period last year, the Command exceeded her revenue collection of 2021 with N8,557,947,642,35k representing 15.04 percent increase.
“When viewing against the revenue the target of the Command for TR period covering January-November 2022, the Command exceeded her revenue target with the sum of Six Billion, Seven Hundred and Twenty Seven Million, Four Hundred and Fifty thousand, Two Hundred Naira, Twenty Two Kobo (N6,727, 450,200.22K) representing 11.45 percent increase.”
He said the achievements wouldn’t have been possible if not for continued enforcement of provisions of extant laws aimed at facilitating legitimate trade.
Jaiyeoba said the Command has continued forced the provisions of 2022 Finance Act, which brought some factories under Excise Control, adding that the appreciable complaints by Exccese Traders operating within the Command’s Area of Responsibility (AoR).
He however said the Command with the use of intelligence and continuous patrol/for cement operations made series of interceptions which include 126 seizures and 21 detention
“They include, 4, 217(50kg) bags of foreign parboiled rice, 914 kegs of petrol, 40 bales and five sacks of used clothing, 17 units of used vehicles,167 pieces of used tyres, 13 sacks of used bags, one sack of used shoes, 69 sacks of dry donkey skin, and 80 wSativa42kg) of cannabis sativa.”
“The achievements showcased here today were made possible through credible intelligence and effective collaboration between units of NCS residents within Oyo/Osun states.”
He warned individuals with nefarious intentions aimed at sabotaging the economic development of the nation to steer clear of the Command as the Command remained resolute to continue to deploybyourcesbyh Extant Laws as enshrined in the Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA) Cap C45, LFN 2004 the s amended.
He commended efforts of sister security agencies such as the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, DSS, NDLEA, and NAQS among others.
He however implored Nigerians to always provide useful information against economic or in the Command so as to improve service delivery and safeguard the country.
