The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has explained why popular cross dresser, Bobrisky, cannot be arrested for being one.

While discussing cross-dressing and sexuality on social media, He said crimes against nature or natural offences account for a greater portion of arrests.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Adejobi emphasises that certain cases are hard to prove without evidence and, as such, many crossdressers are often accused of other crimes, and until there is proof to back all the allegations up, these individuals cannot be arrested.

He explained further that, a crossdressing lifestyle might not align with societal norms, but it is not a criminal offence under Nigerian law. He emphasised that the police are bound by the law and cannot arrest individuals based solely on their choice of clothing or lifestyle.

He said some cases are always very difficult to prove. I’m not ruling out that we have many of them. Let us be reasonable, you can’t have someone you want to prosecute without having credible evidence against them.

I have not read anywhere where cross-dressing is an offence in Nigeria. Some of them are into cross-dressing, the allegation is that they are into something else. That’s where the problem lies. We need to have enough proof, and credible evidence to show they are actually into that. “All those offences are natural offences in Nigeria and they are punishable under our laws.”
