The Nation Newspaper reports that the remains were interred at Igbo Itan. The Itan cemetery is the place where traditional rulers are laid to rest. As the body moves from the Palace to the cemetery which was about three kilometers away, traditionalists were seen making appeasements.
Only traditionalists were allowed into the enclosed cemetery, as women especially were denied entrance into the monarch’s final resting homes.
It was gathered that some traditional rites and rituals involved may not be permissible for women.
Sources said the final laying to rest may run till midnight or early morning of Tuesday.
Shops, business centers, and markets in iseyin were shut while the ceremony lasted.
The roads around the palace were also deserted by traders as many youths and people of the town were seen in their thousands trying to take a look at the body of the late monarch.
It was reported that The Islamic clerics held a prayer session in the inner field of the palace. Many dignitaries were in attendance including the Oyo State Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal who represented the Governor, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Segun Ogunwuyi, and commissioners among other top government functionaries.
Recall that the late monarch died on Sunday at the University College Hospital (UCH) at the age of 62 where he had been receiving medical attention for an undisclosed illness. He ascended the throne in 2017 and lasted for 17 years on the throne before his demise.
In a brief remark at the prayer session, Governor Makinde also promised the people of Iseyin that the demise of the Aseyin will not affect the various developmental projects his administration has embarked on since 2019.
Speaking through his deputy, Bayo Lawal who led other top government functionaries to the brief burial ceremony which held at the Palace.
While commiserating with the people of Iseyin, Makinde said he shared in their grief but urged them to take solace in God and promised that his administration will continue his support for the ancient town.
He said “I have a message for the good people of Iseyin and the message is that it will be business as usual between the town and the present administration, take that as the gospel truth.
According to Lawal, “The Governor said to me, go and inform the good people of Iseyin that although Kabiyesi is no more but, the relationship remains cordial and then all of those developmental projects that are ongoing will not be slowed down simply because the kabiyesi is no more.
“We assure our people to feel free to knock on the door of the Governor as late monarch used to do when he was alive for whatever request and the Governor will listen to them.”
Speaking on behalf of the people of Iseyin, the Executive Chairman of Iseyin Local Government, Abilawon Muftau appreciated Governor Makinde who he said supported the late monarch throughout the period he was ill.
Abilawon added that the Governor stood firmly by the late monarch financially and morally. He appreciated the Deputy Governor who led the state government’s delegation on the condolence visit.
