A tragic incident unfolded in Ibadan on Tuesday morning as a secondary school student was reportedly killed by a stray bullet fired by police officers. The victim, an SS3 student sitting for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), was on his way to school to write that day’s paper.
According to reports by Ibadan-based radio station Splash FM, the police were in hot pursuit of a Hilux vehicle when they opened fire. A stray bullet struck the student, who was in his father’s car, resulting in his untimely death.
Eyewitnesses say the incident happened suddenly and sparked panic in the area. The tragic death has triggered widespread outrage, with residents calling for an immediate investigation into the conduct of the police officers involved.
